Pure fused silica/F-doped fused silica square and rectangular shaped fibers

Square or rectangular fibers, which deviate from the traditional round shape, offer significant advantages by maximizing packing density. The fibers are ideally suited for connection to square detectors or light sources, e.g. for diode lasers. Their angular shape helps to homogenize the input power over short distances. Thanks to the low-pressure plasma deposition technology used in preform production, we also have fibers available in rectangular formats with high aspect ratios and a low corner radius.

Large NCC's are ideal for applications which require a combination of flexibility and large cross sections in silica fibers, e.g. a diode laser delivery system. To name an example, the geometry of a rectangular optical fiber with a ratio of 1:3 allows for rotation and movement on one axis. The cross section is but about four times larger than that of a round fiber (round fiber/diameter - rectangular fiber/page size).

  • Wide range of core and cladding geometries, e.g. square, rectangular or octangonal
  • Homogeneous power distribution
  • Very low NA expansion
  • Excellent image scrambling characteristics
  • No need for laser beam-shaping optics
  • High resistance against laser damage
  • Step-index profile
  • Biocompatible material
  • Sterilisable using ETO and other methods

First choice for applications for beam shaping e.g. including surface treatment or for lighting.
